Hey guys! Wow it’s been nearly a year since I sat down pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard??) and wrote a blog post, but I wanted to take some time to share my current skincare routine with you. I am going to keep it pretty short with just the must know facts - breaking it down step by step cos I know you are time poor and just want to know if it works! SO here goes..... If you know me, you know I battle with adult acne and have done since I was about 18 years old. When Dermalogica launched their new AGE bright range targeting adult acne I was so excited to give it a go. I’ve been using Dermalogica for 3 years and my skin has improved so much. I used to have constant cystic acne all over my chin and forehead and now I’m lucky that I only get a couple here and there thanks to my period. Currently working on my hormones to counteract this but that’s another blog post in itself haha. Side note: I am doing a 4 month hormone support programme with thewholesomeco.com/ - want me to blog about it? Tell me below.... Dermalogica AGE bright clearing serum & spot fader Step one - double cleanse. What does that mean you might ask? Exactly that. Cleansing twice. I feel like double cleansing was a game changer for me. It’s definitely something not many people know about too! I always cleanse first using an oil based product. Either the cleanse off oil or pre cleanse balm from Dermalogica - or a more affordable option, the cleansing balm from Glow Lab. This removes makeup and dirt so well (even waterproof!) but having oily skin I don’t want to leave it there. I then cleanse again using Dermalogica special cleansing gel which ensures my skin is left completely clean. I prefer a gel vs a cream but if you have dry skin a cream is perfect for you! They don’t tend to lather as much and leave the skin more hydrated. For me I like the feeling of really clean skin so a gel is always my go to. Cleansing oils My go to double cleanse duo Step two - exfoliate. So many peple don't exfoliate! This is such an important part of my skin care routine in preventing acne. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells which can clog pores and lead to breakouts. My absolute fav is the Daily Superfoliant - this helps to fight the bio chemical environmental triggers known to excel skin ageing as well purifying as it resurfaced the skin. With active ingredients like charcoal and red algae it’s so gentle but so effective at the same time. Gentle enough to use daily too. Dermalogica daily superfoliant Step three - spot treatment If I have a breakout or scarring I use the Dermalogica AGE bright spot fader now, letting it dry before I then go on to moisturise my skin. This 2 in 1 spot treatment reduces the appearance of active breakouts and post breakout marks/scarring. I can honestly say hand on heart this is the ONLY spot treatment I've ever used that works. It speeds up the healing time of my breakouts by I would say at least 50% maybe more. Honestly blown away by this product!! Step four - hydrate Having oily skin I tend to reach for lighter moisturisers and this is where my obsession with serums comes in. Serums feel light on the skin but have super power hydration. At night I use the AGE bright clearing serum on my chin and T zone where I break out. I then use the Dermalogica biolumn-c serum everywhere else. Vitamin C serums are HUGE right now and this one actually recently won best serum in the 2019 best in beauty awards!! It brightens and firms the skin, and helps to dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. YES PLEASE. If my skin is feeling particularly dehydrated I tend to reach for my Weleda Skin food - this is a cult fav and so intensely moisturising its my absolute fave night cream equivalent. They now have a light version too for you oily gals like me! Serum obsessed - Glow Lab Age Renew regenerating face serum Dermalogica AGE bright clearing serum Dermalogica biolumin-c serum Step five - sunscreen Now this is a step I have only recently introduced (bad I know) but I always broke out when I used sunscreens so avoided them. Working so hard on my pigmentation I realised that the sun was just counteracting this so was stoked to find an affordable titanium and zinc free sunscreen alternative that does not break me out. It is super light on the skin and blends easily - also claiming to repair UV and blue light damage that's already been done. Full of beautiful natural ingredients I highly recommend giving this one a go. Glow Lab age renew Total defence SPF 15 moisturiser So that's it! I know it may seem like a lot but I've always been so self conscious of my skin, and taking 5 minutes a day for me really helps give me that confidence boost I need. Can honestly say at 37 years of age my skin is the best it's ever been and I'm stoked to say the least.
